Advanced Data
Mining Technologies in Bioinformatics
A
book edited by Dr. Hui-Huang Hsu, Tamkang University, Taiwan
Introduction
Information
technologies have made a tremendous contribution to the development of
bioinformatics in recent years. But to conquer more complicated tasks such as
microarray data analysis, protein-protein interaction, gene mapping, biochemical
pathways, and systems biology, more sophisticated techniques are needed. Data
mining technologies can be used to interpret information from biological
sequences and molecules in a more efficient and effective way.
The
Overall Objective of the Book
There
exists a need for an edited collection of articles in this cross-discipline
area. The book aims to provide relevant theoretical frameworks and latest
empirical research findings in the area. Readers can benefit from this book in
understanding basics and problems of bioinformatics, as well as the applications
of data mining technologies in tackling the problems and the essential research
topics in the field.
The
Target Audience
The
audiences of this book are senior or graduate students major in computer
science, computer engineering, or management information system as well as professional instructors and researchers. The
book is also written for professionals in bioinformatics who want to understand
how data mining technologies can be applied to accelerate bioinformatics
research.
Recommended
topics include but are not limited to the following:
-
Bioinformatics:
Gene
expression analysis, Protein/RNA structure prediction, Phylogenetics, Sequence
and structural motifs, Genomics and Proteomics, Gene finding, Drug design,
Modeling of biochemical pathways.
-
Data
Mining: Data
preprocessing and database support, Statistical and bayesian approaches, Machine
Learning and pattern recognition.

Submission
Procedure
Researchers
and practitioners are invited to submit on
or before September 15, 2004, a 2-5 page manuscript proposal clearly
explaining the mission and concerns of the proposed chapter. Authors of accepted
proposals will be notified by October 15,
2004 about the status of their proposals and sent chapter organizational
guidelines. Full chapters are expected to be submitted by February
1, 2005. All submitted chapters will be reviewed on a blind review basis.
The book is schedule to be published by Idea Group,
Inc., publisher of the Idea
Group Publishing, Information Science Publishing, IRM Press, CyberTech
Publishing and Idea Group Reference imprints, in 2005.
